I am not sure what to say. Many people are not reading what my stock rules are and continue to create art for sale (DA prints and beyond) or to be published in magazines with my non-commercial stock. Some do not speak English well enough to begin to understand my rules or what I write back in response to them when they tell me where art using my stock will be published. I am tired of dealing with this, and may be forced to remove all my stock. Gah!

I have many thousands of downloads on many of my plant stocks and that makes me happy. What does not is that many who visit here and download have no respect for my rules or those of others.

I came here with the intent of sharing properly cut-out stock with hobby artists, not to supply stock for commercial use. I have not fully decided what to do yet. If you are reading this and my galleries of stock are still available, you might want to download soon whatever you have not already that you might find useful for art for your own personal use.

I never thought I would remove my stock from DA, but I am teetering on the edge right now. I will at least put them in storage first for a while before removing them. I have no set timeline. Two flagrant violations in two days has not helped. You are forewarned - access may be terminated soon. (edited to add: now at 6 violations in 4 days and now all stock has been placed in storage for an indefinite period.)

I have put all my photo manipulation art (non-stock) in storage just now. I will be back in a few days and decide what to do about my stock. I do not like drama and am not posting this to create any. I just felt that my watchers should know that my free stock may disappear, but not because I don't want to freely share with those who like to create hobby art. I have had plans for some time to sell other (commercial use) stock later on Renderosity, but not these free items. They will always be free for personal use. Comments are welcome.

One solution could be that you upload a preview picture of the stock with the DA watermark and have people note you and then you decide whether or not they can use it or not. You can then send it to the people you are allowing to use.

Thanks for your input. My life is so busy I simply don't have time to respond to individual requests. When I am looking for stock, I skip anyone that one must ask for permission for the same reason. I come to DA at least weekly to fave items using my stock and add them to the slide show on my profile page. I'm here briefly and gone again.

I plan to replace the description on every stock item eventually with the full rules and take them out of storage, but would have to carve time out of a schedule that so far does not allow for it.

I reached my breaking point about 4 months ago with the 15 year old horse sim brats not following my rules, cussing me out and blocking me after telling them. I tried to be nice about it but they didn't listen. Now I just report them to the helpdesk with the correct links and DA removes the art and suspends the user if they do it again. I also did a few other things which seemed to correct the problems.

I edited the description for all 900+ stock items stating "permission is needed for use outside DA" and I did a major edit to my stock rules [link] as well as putting a permanent entry at the top of my journal.

I also created a "favorites" folder named VIOLATIONS TO REPORT. When the thieves see the notification they get all scared and beg me not to report them. Then again 1/4 of them tell me to f*ck off and block me.

good luck :)

Ohhh! Excellent ideas! I am planning on editing all my deviations and add the full rules with the first two lines all caps. I only have eighty some odd deviations. I can't imagine having to edit 900. Thanks so much for the tips! I think I will do exactly what you did.

I do think you will ever get 100% of people choosing to read and follow your simple rules. Seems like not much to ask but... ;p

I do think putting them in storage before you delete would be a great step and give you time to think about it while not having them available, but can be available easily (as opposed to re-uploading all of them).

There are still people (well, idiots) that justify thievery by pretending if it's on the internet it's free. This is of course not true legally or ethically. :( :)

Jarrak, thanks for weighing in! I'm not expecting that everyone will read and immediately comply, but I just had yet another (since I posted the journal entry above) person violate the rules. I know that theft is rampant and even any stock I sell will be shared at times illegally in private groups. Yeah, they are all going in storage today or tomorrow, and will at least be edited to have the first line of text all caps about no prints, no commercial use.

Hi dear Patty
I can understand you well
to me it's not very different and I'm annoyed about these people

On the other hand, I am always when pictures from my stock
new, beautiful manipulations are me and a link is provided.

I think once you exhibited his pictures on the internet you have to
be aware that many people use.
Unfortunately, this is so and will never change

And other users who have to abide by the rules suffer if you offer no more stock.

It is so sad

I should be very sorry if you are offering no more Stock

PS: Sorry for my bad english

Connie, Thanks for your kind words of support. I have seen this happen with many other stock artists and I hate it when one of my favorites leaves. Don't worry about your English. Though it is not perfect, your message is always very clear.

I do love seeing fantastic work that others create.
